STEEL FOR VICTORYS
THAT America's plans for post-war shipping were not idle dreams,
was brought home to Oregon ship workers October 25 when the first
keel plate for Hull 1001, first of the postwar Victory ships was
cut in the O.S.C. plate shop. Shown at right, guiding travograph
cutter as it bites through of the first of 105 Victorys on Oregon's
contract, are N. C. Laplonte

and E. R. Anderson, rear. Only four yards in the United States
were considered outstanding enough to be awarded the Victory contract
and of these Oregon was named No. 1.
