Opal started school in 1917 at the Fair View School, 3 mi. North of Cawker City. First 3 grades there while living on the Odel farm. 4th grade went to Cottonwood school, quit because of illness and took 4th grand the next year at Washington school.

Mooved to Cawker City and attended 6th grade through High school there. Graduating May 14, 1930 with a 2 year teaching certificate.
